Originally created by developer Domas on tophatpuzzle.com and reviewed on freegamenews.com, the original Flash game lacked a strict uniqueness solver—forcing players to guess between ambiguous endings. We preserved the historical puzzle archive and rebuilt the engine so every board has exactly one deductive solution.
Start with a 4×4 core (16 tiles) and attach a 2-tile "hat" to the center of all four sides (16 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 24 tiles). This iconic 24-tile silhouette unites Top Hat Sudoku, Botchee 4×4, and the Twisted 23 Lounge!
A Naked Single occurs when a cell has only one legal candidate left after checking its row, column, and region; a Hidden Single occurs when only one cell in a region can host a specific value.

In sans-serif fonts, lowercase l (ASCII 108), uppercase I (ASCII 73), and numeral 1 (ASCII 49) look nearly identical. On Linux servers (Apache/Bluehost), URLs after the / are strictly case-sensitive—so we standardize on CameLcase (/LearningLab, SLog, FlippingDice, TopHat).
Every LearningLab in the Twisted23 Parlour stamps events using the 38-character alphabet (0-9, A-Z, |, ^—capital L only, zero lowercase ls!) counting seconds since March 18, 2020:
